What's Under Your Feet?
Last updated 01.04.21
Number 10!

This was the tenth time we have taken part in this citizen science project with the British Trust for Ornithology.

Our first survey was in October 2017. The only session we have missed was in June last year. We've been fortunate that the other dates have fitted around school closures and restrictions.

"What's Under Your Feet?" is a firm favourite right across the school.

This time we spread over 3 afternoons, 29th, 30th & 31st March, with each class working separately.

Acorn Class had their very own session; they were super enthusiastic! Some future environmental scientists there.

The children dug up 30cm squares of turf from the school field, the area by the school garden, and the green space next to school. We were lucky that the weather was good for the survey days, but the recent damp conditions made digging fairly easy. As well as plenty of worms (some very big!) we also found some interesting beetles, larvae, maggots and catapillars.
