ARK River Workshop
Last updated 21.04.23

On Wednesday 19th April visitors from ARK (Action for the River Kennet) came to school to run River Workshops with Years 3, 4 and 5.

They explored with the children what makes chalk streams like the Kennet so special and why we should be careful not to waste water.

The classes had many good ideas about how to do this.

Then we went on to look at the kinds of wildlife that live on the river and rely on them.

Outside, the children were able to look in detail at creatures found in a sample of water from the Kennet that morning. After the workshops the water and the living things were returned to the river.

There was also a demonstration of why only toilet paper should be flushed (even though some products claim to be 'flushable'.

With just a bit of shaking the toilet paper completely dissolves, while the wetwipe is still whole and will stay like this for a very long time, clogging drains and potentially affecting wildlife.
