French Theme Week
Last updated 15/04/16
On Tuesday 12th April, we started a week with a French theme.

On Wednesday morning, the children from Vielle Aure joined Willow Class to meet their pen friends.

Songs were sung, gifts were exchanged and the children worked together to produce bilingual book marks, with something about themselves, favourite sport, musical instrument, hobby and so on, in English and French.

At break time we enjoyed Rocky Road and Flapjacks made by Mrs Hook and after break, Miss Brant led the classes in 3T cricket. This is a fairly simple game, but which teaches many of the skills required for batting and fielding. We're not quite sure whether it was a victory for England or France, but in the spirit of entente cordiale, we'll say that honours were even.

After lunch in the hall, the French children are visiting Oxford.

On Thursday morning Willow class and their French partners went on a walk around the village, looking at landmarks and trying to spot different features and name them in French and English.

We also had time to try out the play equipment at Church Meadow and the Lower Recreation Field.

The French children visited the shop and finally we had time for a refreshment break at The Plough Inn. Thank you to Mrs Ridler for providing squash and biscuits for the children and coffee for the staff.

We returned to school, from where the Vielle Aure pupils set off to visit Windsor Castle.

Friday came too soon!

It was time for our French friends from Vielle-Aure to join us for our assembly. We did our regular '5-a-Day' excercise routine (in French), then Joyeux Anniversaire for all the children (English & French) with birthdays.

Year 4 and some of their French penpals read from the souvenir bookmarks they made together and we sang a song.

Then sadly it was time for final gifts, goodbyes, exchanges of emails etc. and time for the coach to leave to take our visitors home to the Pyranees.

Au Revoir! Bon Voyage!

In our singing assembly on Tuesday, we learned some French songs. We were joined by Aglaé, whose mother helped us set up the link with our partner school in St. Cyr, near Poitiers.

On Wednesday a class from the school at Vielle Aure in the Pyranees arrived at school. They stayed at PGL and joined us in school for activities with our children for three mornings. This is the French school which was part of our Comenius project a couple of years ago and, although the project has now finished, we have kept up the contact.
