Pinecone Class - Term 5
Week 1: The children have settled back into school very well. They are very excited about our new topic of 'Pirates'. They have been learning the story of 'The Pirates Next Door' which is the story for English.
In RE we have been looking at the similarities and differences between Eid and Easter. In PE we are studying Pilates, the children did really well this week with the different movements.
Week 2: This week in maths, we became measurement experts, learning how to measure and compare mass using grams and kilograms. In English, we worked together to strengthen our reading comprehension and deepen our understanding of what we read. Our science learning came to an exciting close as we finished our Animals and Living Things unit by learning about Steve Irwin and his inspiring work protecting wildlife. In DT, the children added the finishing touches to their vehicles, including number plates, windscreen wipers and wheels for their axles. We’ve also loved seeing some fantastic homework this term, with the Get Caught Reading activity proving especially popular.
Week 3: The children are becoming immersed in their Pirates topic, learning all about famous pirates from long ago. We have been learning in English about pirate diary entries and postcards. The children have been working in teams this week to review conjunctions when they have retold parts of The Pirates Next Door. We have started our Art for this term and this week the children enjoyed making sea creatures.
Just a reminder that PE will be on Tuesday (5th May) only this week due to the Bank Holiday and there will be no PE on Wednesday 6th May.
Week 4:
This week, the children have continued to develop their learning about pirates across both Topic and English. They enjoyed finding out about the infamous pirate Blackbeard, where they completed a reading comprehension activity and created their own detailed fact files.
In Art, the children have been very creative making their own ‘pieces of eight’ using playdough. They carefully used their observational skills to recreate the look of real pirate coins. This work is building towards some exciting clay modelling that the children will begin soon.
In Science, the class showed fantastic enthusiasm when planting sunflowers under different conditions. They are now observing how their plants grow and keeping a diary for a sunflower that has all the conditions it needs to thrive. We are still receiving some great homework entries including the Get Caught Reading photos. Please look through the photos to see some great shots.
PE Update:
Please note that due to SATs week for Year 6, there will be no PE on Wednesday 13th May. This change applies to this week only.
