Oak Class - Term 4

Computing T5

Our computing lessons this term have been exploring the use of CAD software in PurpleMash. They began by looking at a simple design of a building in the software, looking at the different textures, colourings and points that can manipulate the structure of the building. As a challenge, the children then applied their learning to edit and manipulate the Eiffel Tower.

DT Bridges

In DT, the children have been working hard on their bridge designs. Working in small groups, they have designed a scale-model bridge that spans a gap of 50cm and is at least the height of 20cm above the gap. Having already looked at various designs for bridge supports, the children selected their support type and developed their idea over a few weeks. At the end of this, the children tested their design using two toy cars acting as traffic along its carriageways.

Microorganisms T4

Continuing our learning about Living Things and Their Habitats, the children have explored the world of microorganisms. In partners or threes, the children developed a small segment of a science show or podcast that clearly explained one of the three microorganisms studied: viruses, bacteria and fungi. Once the children had prepared their script and rehearsed, they performed their show to the class.

Rainforest Layers T4

In our topic of South America, this week’s lesson was exploring the layers of the rainforest. Working in pairs or smaller groups, the children created a poster that showcased the different layers of the rainforest, whilst providing information about the different layers and the living things found within each layer.

Plant Classification T4

In science, we have been looking at plant classification. The children worked in pairs, using images of various plants alongside descriptive phrases that the children had matched-up, to develop a classification system of effective questions that could be asked to classify the different plants in the list. Following this, the children swapped their classification keys with their partner in order to check the flow and accuracy.
