World Beat
World Beat is one of our favourite traditions at Wanborough Primary School and has been bringing our school community together since 2011. Every year, each year group chooses a country to learn about, explores its culture and traditions, and learns a song in that country’s language. The children then perform dressed in the colours of their chosen flag, creating a brilliant celebration of music from around the world.
This year’s countries included France, Spain, Germany, Puerto Rico, Italy, Portugal and Brazil. The hall was full of colour, energy and amazing singing.
Here’s what each year group performed:
Acorn Class – Quel Temps Fait-il in French
Conker Class – Baile Coco Loco in Spanish
Pinecone Class – Blumen (Flowers) in German
Maple Class – Shut Up and Dance With Me in Puerto Rican Spanish
Willow Class – Bella Ciao in Italian
Elm Class – Passo Bem Solto in Portuguese
Oak Class – Beautiful Things in Brazilian Portuguese
Each year group also nominated a pupil judge to join Mrs Hook, Mrs Evans, Mrs Dewey and our head judge Mr Luckhurst. Mr Drury did a fantastic job as our presenter, keeping the energy high throughout. The judges scored each performance out of 10, making it a very close competition.
With an impressive 85 points, Oak Class were crowned this year’s champions for their brilliant performance representing Brazil.
A huge thank you to all of our judges and Mr Woodman for coming in to film the performances and for creating the fantastic background images that made the show even more special. The performances will be uploaded at a later date, so make sure you follow our Facebook and Instagram pages so you do not miss out.
Well done to all of our pupils for another unforgettable World Beat celebration. 🌎✨
